At the British International School
of Sulaymaniyah, our preschool programme offers a warm and stimulating
environment where young children can explore, learn, and flourish. Our
dedicated educators are passionate about nurturing a love for learning, using a
well-rounded curriculum that blends play-based exploration with structured
activities.
Our curriculum is specially crafted
to meet the developmental needs of 4-year-olds, focusing on the seven key areas
of learning and development from the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS)
framework:

Here’s
a brief overview of each of the seven areas in the EYFS (Early Years Foundation
Stage) framework:
1. Literacy
Focuses on developing early reading
and writing skills through storytelling, letter recognition, and phonics,
encouraging children to enjoy books and begin forming letters and simple words.
2. Mathematics
Introduces basic concepts of
numbers, counting, and shapes, helping children understand patterns,
measurements, and simple problem-solving in a fun and interactive way.
3. Communication and Language
Encourages listening and speaking
skills, developing children’s ability to express themselves clearly, follow
instructions, and engage in conversations.
4. Personal, Social, and Emotional Development
Supports self-confidence,
self-awareness, and the ability to manage feelings, encouraging children to
build positive relationships and respect for others.
5. Physical Development
Emphasises both fine and gross
motor skills, such as coordination, balance, and hand-eye coordination, through
activities that promote health, self-care, and physical activity.
6. Understanding the
World
Explores the world around them,
introducing children to people, cultures, communities, and the environment,
nurturing curiosity and an understanding of their place in the world.
7. Expressive Arts and
Design
Provides opportunities for
creativity through art, music, dance, and role-play, allowing children to
express themselves and develop their imagination and original ideas.
Year 12 and 13 fall under Key Stage 5.
The British International School of Sulaymaniyah follows Cambridge Cambridge International AS & A Levels curriculum. Students start the syllabus in Year 12 ( Grade 12) and finish it by March of Year 13 (Grade 13). Year 12 curriculum is called AS Level. Students can take the AS Level exam by the end of Year 12 and get their AS Level grades by August. Year 13 is called A Level. Students take their A Level exams by the end of Year 13 and receive their A Level certificates in August. Students can then use their certificates to continue studies around the world without any years being lost or any other exams necessary. The sciences and technology subjects include practical as well as theory exams. The questions are received from Cambridge just before the exam times, approximately 30 minutes, and exams are taken under Cambridge supervision. The exam papers are returned to Cambridge for grading. Students will receive their grades online. We have a very special and talented team for our A Levels, and we have students in different universities around the world.
AS and A Levels work differently from the rest of the Key stages. Students take only 3 or 4 classes depending on the major they want to pursue in university. BIS offers these subjects from which student can choose:

Cambridge Upper Primary (Year 3, 4, 5 & 6) is an education programme for young learners (ages 8 - 11) that combines a world-class curriculum, high-quality support for teachers and integrated assessment.

Grades 10 and 11 fall under Key Stage 4
The British International School of Sulaymaniyah follows Cambridge IGCSE curriculum. Students aged 14 to 16 start the syllabus in Year 10 ( Grade 10) and finish it by March of Year 11 (Grade 11). They take the exam in the end of Year 11. IGCSE exams are international. Students can then use their certificates to continue their high school studies around the world without any years being lost. The sciences and technology subjects include practical as well as theory exams. The questions are received from Cambridge just before the exam times, approximately 30 minutes, and exams are taken under Cambridge supervision. The exam papers are returned to Cambridge for grading. By August, students will receive their grades online. We have a very special and talented team for our IGCSE levels with a history of having results up to 89%. Classes offered at BIS are:

The British International School of Sulaymaniyah follows Cambridge Lower Secondary curriculum for students from ages 11 to 14. These are years 7, 8, and 9.
